Catholic Index

The Church, findable.

When someone searches for Mass, the Church should answer clearly. Catholic Index is the most comprehensive Catholic parish directory in the world, live at catholicindex.org. It was our first project, and every Tagaste product stands on it.

A large share of those pages were people finding a live Mass to watch. The rest were mostly what you would hope: a parish, an address, a time.

Before the agents, the map.

The Church’s information problem predates AI. Schedules live in PDFs, on unmaintained websites, in bulletins that expire every seven days. A person looking for a Mass, a confession time, or an adoration hour often cannot find one, while every restaurant in town has perfect data online.

It began as a confession finder for four pilot parishes. It grew into the record: parish by parish, schedule by schedule, each fact traceable to a source. The result is humble. An address, a time, a door you can walk through. The sacraments are physical, and no app can carry them. What we solve is the finding.

I

Schedules and sacraments

Mass times, confession schedules, adoration hours, Holy Days, staff directories, and sacramental policies, indexed from diocesan websites and parish bulletins.

II

Livestreams

Live Mass streams indexed and continuously checked, so the homebound and the traveling can find a Mass that is on the air right now.

III

Bulletins

The parish bulletin, read carefully by machine and turned into usable information, including the flyers and notices ordinary software misses.

IV

Homilies

37,356 homilies from 2,218 parishes, transcribed and searchable by theme, Scripture, language, parish, and priest.

V

Imagery

25,141 watercolor portraits of churches across the United States and Canada, painted because most parishes had no photograph of their own church.

The source layer.

Front Desk answers from Catholic Index and material parish staff approve. Webmaster uses the same record to keep pages current. Each result remains traceable to its source.
