I heard a voice chanting, ‘Take up and read.’ I seized, opened, and in silence read. By a light of serenity infused into my heart, all the darkness of doubt vanished away.
Every life
leaves a witness.
Conversions, returns, and encounters — kept in the words of the people who lived them.
’Lay this body any where. This only I request, that you would remember me at the Lord’s altar, wherever you be.’
It was like coming into port after a rough sea; and my happiness on that score remains to this day without interruption.
The silence
Most of the Church’s stories leave no record.
The Church has always been carried by witness: one person telling another what happened and what changed.
A grandmother tells a grandchild. A sponsor tells an OCIA candidate. A stranger at Adoration mentions something once and never again. The story lives in one person, then disappears.
We want to build the place where those stories are kept.
I heard a voice chanting, ‘Take up and read.’ I seized, opened, and in silence read. By a light of serenity infused into my heart, all the darkness of doubt vanished away.
The archive
Four rooms.
Conversion. Return. Encounter. The threshold of death.
Conversion
Adults who entered the Catholic Church — from atheism, from other traditions, or from the long road back.
Return
Those who left and came back, sometimes after decades. The moment the old thread pulled taut again.
Encounter
Answered prayers, healings, and moments that resist explanation — preserved in the words of the person who lived them.
The Threshold
Deathbed testimonies and accounts from the edge of life, told by those who were there.
How we collect
Care is part of the record.
A testimony still belongs to the person who gives it. These rules protect that.
In their own words
No editorial rewrites. The person’s grammar, pauses, repetitions, and uncertainty belong to the testimony.
Anonymous by default
Every contributor chooses: full name, first name, or none.
Never monetized
No paywall, advertisements, or use in Tagaste marketing.
Verified, not judged
We confirm that the person is real and the account is theirs. The Church, not Tagaste, judges supernatural claims.
Part of something larger
Witness is one layer of the archival program.
Homilies, bulletins, parish schedules, and now the first-person accounts of the people in the pews. All captured daily, all headed for the same permanent record.
